How to Sell a Car Online
In the past, many individuals seeking to upgrade their automobile have chosen to do so by trading in their existing vehicle; which both lowers the price of the new purchase and disposes of the unwanted auto at once. This is a quick and easy solution to ridding oneself of a car that is out of date, but it rarely allows the owner to realize an amount equal to the true worth of the vehicle.
Assuming that the car is in proper working order prior to listing it online is a mistake. Before beginning the selling process, have the car professionally assessed to insure that all is well and that you can sell the car with a clear conscious. If you can show proof via documentation that the car has recently been inspected, you are more likely to receive top dollar. Furthermore, if you take the car for examination and learn there are hidden issues, you can choose to either share those problems with potential car buyers or have them repaired yourself prior to listing. The choice can be difficult, as you may not wish to spend money on a car that you plan to be soon rid of, but in the end, you are much more likely to make a sell on a recently refurbished automobile than a vehicle that needs some work.
Once you are absolutely certain that the car is in top shape mechanically, it is time to have the vehicle detailed. You can either choose to have it professionally done or carry out the work yourself. Whichever path you choose to take, make sure the job is thorough. Remember, you will be sharing photographs of this car online, and potential buyers may wish to see every nook and cranny of the automobile before willing to part with their money. Likewise, make sure to remove all items from the interior of the car during the cleaning process.
About two weeks before attempting to sell the car, have the oil changed. This is an inexpensive way to give the potential buyer peace of mind, as he or she is likely to have the oil checked prior to purchase. When having the oil changed, ask the mechanic to also fill the radiator and washer fluid. Of course, all of this can be conducted at the time of the initial inspection.
Lastly, prior to selling your car, make sure that you have collected all documentation. This includes not only the car's registration and other ownership papers, but also receipts or slips regarding any service the car has undergone as well as dates of oil changes or other maintenance activities.
Once all of this is in place, you are ready to sell your car!
